William Van Faasen Chairman, President & CEO, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Bill has more than 30 years of health care experience, working primarily with Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies. He started his career at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, and joined Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts in June 1990 as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He became President and CEO in 1992. Bill is the former chair of the United Way and Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of both organizations. He is a member of the Board of Directors, Big Sister Association of Greater Boston, Minuteman Council Boy Scouts of America, Private Industry Council, and The Business Collaborative. Bill also serves on the Boards of IMS Health (NYSE), Tier Technologies (NASDAQ), Citizens Bank of Massachusetts, NSTAR and Liberty Mutual Life Insurance Company. Bill is a recipient of the Maimonides Award from the Anti-Defamation League, the Excalibur Award from the American Cancer Society, the Black & White Business Profile Award from Black & White Boston Coming Together and the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America. In September 2000, Bill was named New Englander of the Year by The New England Council, a regional business organization. In August 2002, Massachusetts Supreme Court Chief Justice Margaret Marshall asked Bill to serve as a vice chair of the Visiting Committee on Management in the Courts, a special eight-member committee to examine management practices in the Commonwealth’s court system and make recommendations on how to improve administration. Bill holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Hope College and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University. He resides on the North Shore with his wife Jane and their three children. Edward Dugger III Born in Dayton, Ohio, Ed was educated in the city's public school system
where he excelled as both a scholar and an athlete. Having been awarded
a full athletic scholarship in football to attend Ohio State University,
he decided instead to utilize a National Achievement Scholarship awarded
through the National Merit Scholarship program to attend Harvard College.
While attending Harvard, he prepared for a career as an urban planner
and pursued the sport of track and field in which his father, Edward Dugger,
Jr. of Tufts University, had set an American record (120 yd. high hurdles).
As one of the Ivy League's top 440-yard hurdlers, Ed was selected as a
member of the Harvard-Yale team to participate in the bi-annual meet against
Oxford-Cambridge in London, England. His academic performance culminated
with a magna cum laude on his honors thesis. |
